I had a case of the Mondays... on a Tuesday.

This past Sunday was the first official day of Spring. Thank goodness. With Spring comes warmer temperatures, which I had (apparently incorrectly) assumed would make this job much easier to manage. However, with Spring also comes a thaw and an increase in rain. I actually really like rain, so this is usually a welcome change for me. The problem came today when I went out to see my first client of the day. I had never met this client before and she lives on the very edge of the county. My mapquest directions failed to note that I would be using unpaved roads for the majority of the drive. As I was driving out there I was getting increasingly worried about my little Hyundai Sonata and whether or not it could possibly make it through the slick, muddy, rain covered dirt road. Thankfully, my trusty car successfully managed the trek over three different dirt roads and I pulled up to the most dilapidated house I have ever seen. I have never been actively scared to walk up to a house before today. As I made my way up the crumbling stone steps images of a meth house explosion came to mind. I knocked on the door and waited for someone to answer. No one ever did. I tried to go around to a different door to see if I was just at the wrong entrance (there were three that could have been the main entrance). As I was walking up two cats started fighting in the barn across the driveway. No one answered at that door either. Then, out of literally no where, a 75 year old woman popped up and scared the crap out of me. She told me that the family had moved and she didn't know where they were. She left. Then, as I was getting into my car the sheriff came up and asked who I was and what I was doing. I told him and and told him I was leaving. Thankfully he followed me because as I was driving down the second of three dirt roads my car got stuck in the mud. I ended up having to be pushed by the sheriff for about five minutes until I got to a dry patch of road. Before he pushed me I got a picture of the road I was driving on:

Let's hope I never have to go back, I'm not sure my car would survive a second trip through this.

  1. I can't see the picture, but that sounds terrible! Like something out of a movie or a bad dream. Don't go back!
